Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam calls for development while protecting the Press Club's heritage
Journalists are the conscience of the nation and the mirror of society. They identify injustice as injustice and play an important role in guiding the government, democracy and politics along the right path, commented Sheikh Rabiul Alam, the minister in charge of the Ministries of Road Transport and Bridges, Shipping, and Railways.
He said these things on Sunday, October 18, in his speech as chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony of a sports competition organized on the occasion of the 72nd founding anniversary of the National Press Club.
The Roads and Bridges Minister said that alongside the infrastructural development of the National Press Club, its historical heritage and distinctiveness must also be preserved.
He said development does not mean only building modern infrastructure; it is also important to hold on to the marks of an institution's history and glorious role. He stressed that development must be carried out while keeping the Press Club's heritage intact.
Regarding the demand to name a metro rail station after the National Press Club, he said that in principle he agrees with this demand.
However, he said it is necessary to review technical feasibility, software changes and cost matters in order to implement it. He also said necessary steps will be taken after discussing the matter with the managing director of the metro rail.
Highlighting the significance of the marathon, Sheikh Rabiul Alam said patience, keeping the goal fixed and consistent effort are the main keys to success.
He commented that this kind of dedication is also needed in personal and state life to overcome adversity and reach a definite goal.
At the time, the minister highlighted the importance of practicing sports, saying that sports play an important role in building a healthy, strong and disciplined nation.
That is why, he said, it is necessary to continue the practice of sports, culture and intellectual pursuits. The founding anniversary sports event was presented at the ceremony as part of that practice.
Present at the ceremony were National Press Club President poet Hasan Hafiz, eminent journalist personalities of the country, members of the Press Club and the participants in the sports competition.
Prizes were distributed among the winners of the competition at the ceremony. In the Press Club's 72-year journey, the institution's heritage, the role of journalists and questions of future development became the main topics of discussion at the event.
