Four arrested in case over attack on railway police outpost in Gazipur
An allegation has been raised of an attack on a railway police outpost in an attempt to snatch away two people who were detained with yaba at Joydebpur Railway Station in Gazipur. The Special Response Battalion (SRB)-1 has arrested four people in the case filed over the incident.
This information was given on Sunday (October 18) afternoon in a press release signed by Shah Alam, Additional Superintendent of Police and Senior Assistant Director (Operations and Media Officer) of SRB-1, Gazipur.
The arrested persons are Akash Hossain (23), Md. Rajib (23), Md. Nazmul Hossain Nadim and Shiuli Akter Sumi (35). They were arrested on Sunday from the road beside the cemetery in Ward No. 27 of the Purba Chandna area under Sadar Police Station of Gazipur Metropolitan City.
According to the SRB press release, on October 15 at 5:45 pm, railway police detained two people named Anis (19) and Shimla Akter alias Brishti (22) with yaba from the southern end of the platform at Joydebpur Railway Station.
The case alleges that named and unidentified persons carried out a surprise attack on the police outpost in order to snatch them away. The release said the attack took place centering on the two detainees.
Over this incident, on October 16, ATSI Md. Nurul Islam, as complainant, filed a case at Dhaka Railway Police Station. After the case was filed, work began to identify those involved in the incident.
After the case, SRB-1 began a shadow investigation to identify and arrest the persons involved in the incident. With the cooperation of the intelligence wing of the SRB headquarters and on the basis of secret information, four people were arrested in a drive.
Among the arrested persons, Akash Hossain and Md. Rajib are accused named in the case's First Information Report (FIR). The press release said the other two, Nazmul Hossain Nadim and Shiuli Akter Sumi, were arrested as suspects found during the investigation.
That is, of the four arrested, two are accused directly named in the FIR, and the other two have been detained as suspects in the course of the investigation. This distinction has been mentioned separately in the release.
The four arrested persons have been handed over to the police of Sadar Police Station of the Gazipur Metropolitan Police for further legal measures. The progress of the case will thereafter be determined through the court and the subsequent investigation process.
The incident is gaining importance as an allegation of an attack on a law enforcement agency centering on a drug detention in a railway station area. Whether the investigation will continue regarding others involved in an incident such as the attack on the police outpost will become clear in the subsequent legal process.
For now, the first phase of the drive in the case has been completed with the handover of the four arrested persons. The release gave no separate new information about what measures were taken over the yaba detention incident against the detainees Anis and Shimla.
