Luke Bryan's Son Bo Breaks Collarbone in High School Football Game, Thanks Fans for Prayers

Bo Bryan, the son of American country music star Luke Bryan, has been injured while playing in a high school football game in Tennessee. He fell on his right shoulder after being sacked during Friday's game, and it later emerged that he had broken his collarbone.

Bo's full name is Thomas Boyer Bryan, and he is 18 years old. He plays quarterback for Battle Ground Academy. He exited the game against Pope John Paul II Preparatory School in Tennessee after landing on his right shoulder when he was sacked during the opening drive.

After the injury, he was spotted on the sidelines wearing a sling on his right arm. According to The Tennessean, he was due to undergo an X-ray following the game.

On Instagram the following day, Bo shared the news himself: he had broken his collarbone. His message to followers, as reported by USA Today, was: 'Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers. We will be back.'

Before the injury, Bo was having an outstanding season. In his first season as a starter, he had thrown for 2,006 yards and 30 touchdowns with three interceptions through seven games, bringing his team to a 6-1 record.

His coach, Bobby Bentley, told The Tennessean: 'I don't know what we're looking at yet. We'll have to figure this thing out. That's the challenge for us as a team and as coaches. What do we do? How do we do it? We're going to figure it out.'

Luke Bryan had spoken of his pride in his son's play only last month. He told USA Today High School Sports that he was 'super impressed' watching his son play, adding: 'He's learning as he goes; everything that happens to him this year, it's the first time he's had all these pressure situations. Can't be more proud as a dad.'

He added: 'Well, the main thing is, you see the hard work that he puts in and you just want the hard work to pay off. To see his hard work and his commitment and his love for the game — I'm just so proud of him.' The injury is a major setback to that season.

Bryan's representatives did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment, according to the report.

Luke Bryan has served as an 'American Idol' judge for nine seasons. He and his wife, Caroline Boyer, have two sons — Bo and Tatum 'Tate' Christopher Bryan. Following the deaths of his sister Kelly Bryan and brother-in-law Ben Lee Cheshire, the couple also took in Kelly and Ben's three children to raise alongside their own sons.

The singer previously told Hook & Barrel that he often reflects on how his children are watching his every move. 'Just last week I had to tell one of my boys, I know you have seen me do this, but that doesn't mean you do it. But it all starts with the father in the home — they lean on us as the example,' he said.

He added that through their good days and bad, children have to be uplifted and taught to cut themselves some slack. That outlook from his father is now Bo's biggest support on the road to recovery, as the young quarterback waits to return from the sling to the field.
