Three Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University students become national champions with innovative idea to solve farm problems
A student team from Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University has become champion in the national competition 'Idea Fest-2025' by presenting innovative ideas to solve various problems in the agriculture sector. Three students of the university achieved the success in the competition organised by the Ziaur Rahman Foundation.
The champion team members are team leader Maruf Mostafa Munim, Md Mohaiminul Islam and Md Riyad Mia. Munim is a student of the 78th batch of the Faculty of Agriculture, Mohaiminul is from the 77th batch of Agricultural Economics, and Riyad is from the 80th batch of the same subject. Their combined presentation earned the top place before the judges.
The competition began in October 2025. Its final round was held on 10 October 2026 at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Dhaka. Students from various universities across the country took part, making it a competition with broad national participation.
The structure involved selection in stages. After an initial group round, 18 selected teams competed in the semi-finals. Teams chosen from there took part in the final round. The Sher-e-Bangla team became champion after passing through that long selection process.
The winners were awarded prizes on 18 October at the Abu Sayeed Convention Hall in Shahbagh in the capital. The prizes were presented to the winning team members at a ceremony marking the 27th founding anniversary of the Ziaur Rahman Foundation. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman distributed the prizes at the ceremony.
Team leader Maruf Mostafa Munim spoke on behalf of the champion team at the ceremony. He presented various problems in Bangladesh's agriculture sector, the multifaceted challenges faced by farmers, and the potential of his team's innovative model to address them. His speech reflected an effort to connect the competition idea to field-level problems rather than keeping it confined to theory.
Munim also spoke about the role and contribution of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University in the sustainable development of agriculture. Such national success by students of this university, specialised in agricultural education and research, has come forward as a practical example of that role.
The students' achievement has highlighted the importance of innovative ideas and research-based initiatives in solving problems in the agriculture sector. The result reflects the message that the challenges farmers face every day need not only conventional methods but also new ideas.
At the same time, the success has brought forward the participation of young people in tackling agriculture's many challenges and the possibility of inventing effective solutions. That university-level students are thinking about national problems and building models is a positive sign for future agricultural leadership.
The university authorities congratulated the members of the champion team. The authorities expressed the expectation that their innovative activities and research will continue in the future. This institutional recognition will serve as encouragement for the team's next work.
Although the competition carries '2025' in its name, its final round and prize distribution were completed in October 2026. Reaching the top after surviving that long process shows the team's sustained preparation.
The question now is how far the champion innovative model advances toward being put to use by farmers in practice. Competition recognition is one step; application and expansion at field level will determine how lasting an impact this idea can have on the agriculture sector.
