Mahanagar Express to run on Dhaka-Cox's Bazar route from 26 October
The Mahanagar Express train will run on the Dhaka-Cox's Bazar route from 26 October. It is set to become a new addition for passengers travelling by train from the capital to Cox's Bazar, the country's main tourist city.
Since the Dhaka-Cox's Bazar rail link opened, passenger interest in this route has grown steadily. Huge numbers of tourists travel every year to the seaside city of Cox's Bazar, and train travel is now the preference of a large share of them.
Once the Mahanagar Express starts running on this route, passengers will have more choice. On which days the train will run, its departure and arrival schedule and its fare list will be known with certainty only after the formal announcement by the railway authorities.
Trains currently running on this route carry a notable load of passengers. With another train added, pressure on seats should ease somewhat and advance tickets should become easier to obtain, passengers hope.
The decision to launch the train in the last week of October, ahead of the tourist season, is significant. Tourist numbers surge in Cox's Bazar during the winter season, and an additional train at that time could benefit both passengers and tourism-related businesses.
With the Mahanagar Express beginning operations from 26 October, Dhaka-Cox's Bazar rail communication expands by another step. Once the train's schedule and ticket-sale details are announced, passengers will be able to plan their journeys accordingly.
