Jubo Dal distributes leaflets in Sylhet demanding an end to gas and electricity crisis

Staff Reporter • Reading time: 2 min

The Jubo Dal has distributed leaflets in Sylhet demanding a resolution to the gas and electricity crisis. Through the programme, the issue was brought before the general public and a call was made for a swift solution. For residents of Sylhet Division, uncertainty over gas and power supply is a familiar hardship, and the programme was held against that backdrop.

Programmes such as leaflet distribution are usually taken up both to raise public awareness and to draw the attention of the authorities. That intent is clear in this Jubo Dal initiative as well — the gas and electricity crisis has been presented not merely as a service problem, but as a major issue linked to people's daily lives, businesses and production.

When gas pressure falls or supply shortages appear in Sylhet, the impact ranges from cooking in homes to industrial and commercial establishments. Similarly, when electricity supply is disrupted, small traders, students and ordinary families all suffer. The leaflets highlighted that suffering and called for effective steps to resolve the crisis.

Leaders and activists taking part in the programme handed leaflets to pedestrians and local residents. Such direct outreach also creates an opportunity to speak with people and hear their experiences. Public anger and expectations over gas and electricity featured in the discussions during the programme.

The divisional city of Sylhet is also known as an expatriate-heavy area. Reliable fuel and electricity supply is closely tied to its economy, service sector and daily life. If a supply crisis drags on, its impact is not limited to a single family but spreads across the entire local economy.

According to the demand voiced by the Jubo Dal, what is needed to resolve the crisis is not just assurances but real action. Clear initiatives were sought on where shortages are arising, where the weaknesses in the supply system lie, and how normal conditions can be restored quickly.

On many previous occasions too, programmes of protest and demands over gas and electricity crises have been held in Sylhet and other parts of the country. Each time, the public's core expectation has been the same — uninterrupted and affordable supply. This latest Jubo Dal leaflet distribution is an expression of that continuing demand.

For many local residents, gas and electricity are now a subject of daily discussion. Uncertainty of supply affects planning for everything — cooking times, business schedules and students' studies. As a result, any programme calling for a solution to the crisis quickly draws public attention in the area.

The programme appealed to the relevant authorities to pay special attention to the gas and electricity situation in Sylhet. Across the division's districts — Sylhet, Moulvibazar, Habiganj and Sunamganj — reliable supply is a basic public expectation.

What remains to be seen now is whether there is any visible improvement in the supply situation following this demand, and whether the authorities announce any new steps to resolve the crisis. Discussion of the issue at the local level has intensified after the Jubo Dal programme.
