Rajinikanth Unstoppable at 75: 'Jailer 2' Crosses Tk 660 Crore Worldwide in Five Days

He has touched 75, but his storm at the box office shows no sign of stopping. Tamil cinema superstar Rajinikanth's new film 'Jailer 2' has earned more than Tk 660 crore worldwide in just its first five days. Returning to the screen after three long years with the sequel to 'Jailer', he has proved once again that the Rajini magic remains intact.

Like the previous film, 'Jailer 2' has been directed by Nelson Dilipkumar. The film's appeal has been heightened further by star cameos — big names such as Hrithik Roshan, Jackie Shroff and Mohanlal appear in guest roles.

'Jailer 2' was released on October 15 in 2,500 theatres in India and 1,500 theatres abroad. Excitement among fans had been at fever pitch even before the release, and after it, that enthusiasm has been reflected in the box office numbers.

Several Tamil-language films have been released this year. But in terms of opening-day earnings, 'Jailer 2' has surpassed them all — the film earned Rs 110 crore on its very first day. In second and third place are 'Jana Nayagan' (Rs 81.05 crore) and 'Viswanath and Sons' (Rs 30 crore) respectively.

According to box office tracker Sacnilk, in five days 'Jailer 2' has earned Rs 242.25 crore (nett) in India; its gross collection in India stands at Rs 283.75 crore, and it has earned Rs 194 crore (gross) overseas. On that count, the film's worldwide gross in five days stands at Rs 477.75 crore, which is Tk 622.78 crore in Bangladeshi currency.

Bollywood review site BollyMovieReviewz, however, gives slightly different figures. According to them, the film earned Rs 59 crore (nett) in India on its first day, Rs 37 crore on the second day, Rs 50 crore on the third, Rs 54 crore on the fourth and Rs 43 crore on the fifth day. On that count, the worldwide gross in five days stands at Rs 507 crore — Tk 660.90 crore in Bangladeshi currency.

The film's other cast members include Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Mirna, SJ Suryah, Mithun Chakraborty, Vidya Balan and Suraj, among others. Produced by Kalanithi Maran on a budget of Rs 300 crore, the film's music has been composed by Anirudh Ravichander.

Notably, the first 'Jailer' was released worldwide on August 10, 2023, on 2,900 screens. The buzz that had built up before its release only grew afterwards. Made on a budget of Rs 200 crore, that film had earned between Rs 600 and Rs 635 crore.

After the success of the first instalment, expectations for the sequel were sky-high. The pace of earnings over the first five days suggests 'Jailer 2' is well on its way to meeting them. Collections have already reached a comfortable position relative to the budget, and if the film benefits from the holiday season in the days ahead, the numbers could climb further.

For fans, Rajinikanth is not just an actor but an emotion. The first five days of 'Jailer 2' have shown once again that even at 75, his presence on screen can still draw crowds to theatres just as before.
