Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has arrived in Rajshahi to visit puja pandals for the Sharodiya Durga festival and to address a public rally. His landing at Shah Makhdum Airport on Tuesday afternoon marked the third leg of the day's programme — earlier in the morning he had completed roadside rallies and a pandal visit in Rangpur.

The prime minister departed Saidpur in Nilphamari aboard a military aircraft at 2:20 pm on Tuesday and landed at Rajshahi's Shah Makhdum Airport at 2:55 pm.

At the airport he was received by Rajshahi-3 MP Advocate Shafiqul Haque Milon, Rajshahi-5 MP Professor Nazrul Islam, Rajshahi Development Authority chairman Abul Kalam Azad Sweet, Rajshahi divisional commissioner Md Yusuf Ali, Rajshahi Range DIG Md Ashik Sayeed PPM, Rajshahi Metropolitan Police commissioner Fayzul Kabir PPM, deputy commissioner Kazi Shahidul Islam and Rajshahi district police superintendent Md Mamun Or Rashid.

Accompanying the prime minister were BNP standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, BNP acting secretary general Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, cultural affairs minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury, state minister for local government Mir Shahe Alam, prime minister's adviser Rehan Asif Asad, special assistant Bijan Kanti Sarkar, BNP special secretary Belayet Hossain Mridha, Hindu Religious Welfare Trust vice-president and MP Nipun Roy Chowdhury, BNP assistant organising secretary Jayanta Kumar Kundu, prime minister's press secretary Saleh Shibli and additional press secretary Atiqur Rahman Rumon, among others.

After the airport formalities, the prime minister went straight to the public rally at Rajshahi's historic Madrasa Field, where party leaders and activists had been gathering since the morning.

After the rally, the prime minister will visit the puja pandal at Rajshahi's Dharmasabha Temple, where he will exchange greetings with members of the Sanatan community and join a views-exchange meeting.

Earlier, the day's programme began at 9 am when the prime minister left Dhaka's Tejgaon Airport by military aircraft for Saidpur, landing there at 9:50 am.

On the way from Saidpur to Rangpur, he addressed two roadside rallies at Taraganj and Pagla Pir. He later visited the puja pandal at Rangpur's Radhagobinda Temple and exchanged greetings with the Sanatan community.

The prime minister's tour covers three divisions. After completing the Rajshahi programme, he is scheduled to leave for Chattogram.

The prime minister's pandal visits during the Durga festival, alongside public rallies in several divisions on the same day, carry special weight in political circles. Senior party leaders and cabinet members have accompanied him throughout the tour.

According to BSS, party activists and ordinary people turned out at every stop of the daylong programme. Attention is now on the message the prime minister delivers at the Rajshahi rally and on his greetings at the Dharmasabha Temple.
