Seriously Injured Rajshahi University Student Flown to Dhaka by Air Ambulance
The Rajshahi University administration has sent Chesi Tripura, a student seriously injured in a road accident, to Dhaka by air ambulance for advanced treatment.
The air ambulance carrying her left for Dhaka at around 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday. She is scheduled to receive treatment at the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital in Dhaka.
Chesi Tripura is a fourth-year student in the university's Microbiology Department. The information was confirmed by Vice-Chancellor Professor Md. Faridul Islam.
Earlier, on Monday, Chesi Tripura was seriously injured when she was hit by a truck while returning to campus from Bagmara in Rajshahi.
After the accident, she was first taken in the evening to the Durgapur Upazila Health Complex. She was later transferred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
When her physical condition deteriorated, she was moved to the intensive care unit. She suffered a serious injury to the right side of her head and internal bleeding, according to doctors.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Md. Faridul Islam said the fourth-year microbiology student was seriously injured in a tragic road accident, had a head injury and a fractured skull, that doctors there had advised neurosurgery, and that she had been taken to the ICU and was on ventilation.
He said that after considerable effort, the doctors on duty decided in the morning that the student needed to be sent quickly to Dhaka for advanced treatment. She was referred to the Neurosciences institute in Dhaka, its director was contacted, an ICU bed was ready for her, and treatment would begin as soon as she arrived. Her documents had already been sent ahead.
Promising to stand by the students, the vice-chancellor added that the administration has always stood by its students, stands by them now and will do so in the future. He said they want to continue working this way and will try to meet every need, which is their highest priority.
The vice-chancellor noted that this student came from distant Bandarban to study, so while the administration holds responsibility, they are her guardians — the message they want to give, as they have done before and will do in the future.
The vice-chancellor called on everyone to pray for Chesi Tripura's speedy recovery. He appealed to the countrymen to pray for the student so that she recovers quickly and returns among everyone.
Her next treatment in Dhaka under specialist doctors at the Neurosciences hospital, especially the decision on neurosurgery needed for her head injury, will now be the most important step on her path to recovery.
