Two police officers injured in Bhaluka attack while arresting drug-case accused in Mymensingh
Two police officers were injured in an attack in Bhaluka, Mymensingh, while trying to arrest an accused in a drug case. The incident took place on Tuesday evening at Sajangaon village in Rajoi Union of the upazila. The injured officers were rescued and given primary treatment at Bhaluka Upazila Health Complex.
The injured are Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Rahidul Islam and Constable Bakirul Islam of Bhaluka Model Police Station. The raid, attack and rescue have drawn local attention.
Police sources said a police team raided the Sajangaon home of Abdul Quddus, a warranted accused in a drug case, to arrest him. The warrant raid ultimately turned into an attack.
After arriving, the officers were shown documents saying the arrest warrant had been withdrawn or recalled by the court, and they moved to release the accused and return. In other words, after seeing the papers, the police were preparing to leave.
At that very moment, members of the accused's family launched a sudden attack on the officers, police sources said. ASI Rahidul Islam and Constable Bakirul Islam were injured and became trapped at the scene.
After receiving the news, additional police from the station quickly reached the spot and rescued their trapped and injured colleagues.
After the rescue, at around 9pm, the two injured officers were taken to the Upazila Health Complex, where they were given primary treatment, police said.
Bhaluka Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jahidul Islam confirmed the incident. He said two police members were physically attacked while trying to detain a warranted accused.
The OC added that additional police were sent immediately to rescue them, and necessary legal action is being taken against those involved in obstructing government work and in the attack.
According to the sequence described, the attack came just as police were leaving after being shown the warrant-recall papers — a detail that will matter in the investigation. Who took part in the attack and what the papers contained will be verified through the legal process.
For now, attention is on the treatment of the two injured officers and on action against those involved. Police say necessary legal steps are under way over the obstruction and attack; the next picture will become clearer as that action progresses.
