Hero Alam Sues Former Wife and Two Others Over Death Threats and Alleged Tk 15 Lakh Extortion Demand
Content creator Ashraful Hossain Alam, known as Hero Alam, has filed a case against three people, including his former wife, alleging death threats, fraud and a demand for Tk 15 lakh in extortion money. He filed the case on Tuesday morning at the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Raju Ahmed.
The court recorded the plaintiff's statement and directed the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to investigate the allegations and submit a report. The next progress of the case therefore depends on the PBI's investigation report.
The principal accused is Hero Alam's former wife, Mosa. Sathi Khatun. The other two accused are Hero Alam's associates Ahsan Habib Selim and Md Mahidul Islam. The case documents list Hero Alam as 40 years old, Sathi Khatun 22, Selim 30 and Mahidul 28.
Hero Alam's lawyer, Santa Sakchhina, confirmed the case. She said the court recorded Hero Alam's statement, accepted the case and directed the PBI to investigate and submit a report.
According to the complaint, former wife Sathi Khatun came to Hero Alam asking for an opportunity to work in his music videos. Hero Alam later gave her money for household expenses and for buying clothes.
On 17 August, Sathi Khatun was given Tk five lakh, the complaint says. The case notes that Sathi also acknowledged on social media that the money was to be deposited in a bank.
Hero Alam then travelled to Saudi Arabia on 22 August to perform Umrah. According to the complaint, after he went there, Sathi Khatun demanded another Tk two lakh in the name of music video shooting and makeup.
The complaint further says Hero Alam divorced Sathi Khatun on 29 September. After the divorce, the three accused together demanded Tk 15 lakh from him in extortion money, the complaint alleges.
When the money was not paid, the accused allegedly abused Hero Alam and members of his family in foul language on social media and issued death threats. Over that incident, Hero Alam filed a general diary (GD) at Hatirjheel police station on 16 October.
The complaint also alleges that on 12 October the accused came live on social media and publicly threatened to consume poison at Hero Alam's birthday event and to make the plaintiff 'eat jail rice'.
Altogether, the case brings together a dispute over money transactions, an alleged post-divorce extortion demand and threats issued on social media. On the court's order, the PBI will now investigate these allegations, and its report will determine the next step of the case.
