Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives and a member of the BNP standing committee, has been admitted to the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) of Evercare Hospital in the capital after suddenly feeling severe chest pain. He is under the close observation of specialist doctors.
On Wednesday night (21 October), Dr Moyeen Khan suddenly fell ill and was taken to Evercare Hospital in the Bashundhara residential area of the capital. As he was feeling severe chest pain, doctors admitted him to the CCU.
The matter was confirmed by Shairul Kabir Khan, a member of the BNP media cell. According to him, the minister was admitted to hospital on Wednesday night and has been under doctors' care since then.
On Thursday (22 October) at around 2 p.m., Professor Dr A Z M Zahid Hossain, Minister for Social Welfare and also a BNP standing committee member, went to the hospital to see Dr Moyeen Khan. He visited the hospital to inquire about the minister's physical condition.
At the hospital, Dr Zahid Hossain took a full briefing on Dr Moyeen Khan's condition from the doctors in charge. Speaking with the physicians, he learned about the progress of the treatment.
At that time, on behalf of the family, the party and the government, he sought prayers from the countrymen to Almighty Allah for Dr Moyeen Khan. A speedy recovery for the veteran leader is now the hope of his family and party alike.
The family has also asked the countrymen to pray for Dr Moyeen Khan's quick recovery and good health. Since news of the hospital admission spread, concern has grown among party leaders, activists and well-wishers.
Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan is a leader at the top policymaking level of the BNP as a standing committee member and, at the same time, the government's Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives. His illness is therefore being viewed with importance by both the party and the government.
After being admitted with chest pain, he has been kept in the CCU, where patients with cardiac complications are treated under intensive observation. Doctors are keeping his condition under watch.
So far, no detailed statement has been received from the doctors about his physical condition. It is therefore not possible to say yet how long he will remain in hospital or when he may return to duty.
For now, everyone is waiting for the next update from the hospital and the family. Only if Dr Moyeen Khan's condition improves and doctors discharge him will the question of his return home or to work arise.
