Peanut Seller Raju of Dakop Thrilled After Shaking Hands with the Prime Minister, Video Goes Viral
Raju Gazi, a peanut seller from Dakop in Khulna, has expressed his delight after getting to shake hands with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. He recorded his conversation and handshake with the Prime Minister on his own mobile phone, and when he later posted the video as a Facebook reel, it spread across social media.
On Thursday morning (22 October), the Prime Minister shook hands with Raju on his way from the Nalian Secondary School field in Dakop to the Coast Guard pontoon.
Tarique Rahman landed by helicopter at the Nalian Secondary School field at around 10:30am. From there he set off on foot towards the Nalian Coast Guard pontoon.
On the way, the Prime Minister waved greetings to BNP leaders, activists and ordinary people standing on both sides of the road. Party activists also welcomed him with various slogans.
Along the path, peanut seller Raju, recording video in selfie mode on his mobile phone, addressed the Prime Minister as 'sir' and greeted him loudly. That caught the Prime Minister's attention.
The Prime Minister went over to Raju, shook his hand and asked his name. He also shook hands with many others at the time and patted a few people on the head.
After the handshake, Raju could be heard saying, 'Thank you so much, sir. I feel very happy.'
After the Prime Minister moved on, an elated Raju said in the video, 'Alhamdulillah, who have I just spoken to — my life is fulfilled. I sell peanuts, and I have shaken hands with Tarique Rahman, the Prime Minister of the Government of Bangladesh. What more could I need?'
The video Raju recorded was later published on his Facebook reels and spread across social media. The spontaneous moment between the Prime Minister and an ordinary peanut seller is the video's main attraction.
The Prime Minister left the Nalian Coast Guard pontoon by waterway for Mongla at 10:48am on Thursday. At 12:55pm he arrived by waterway at the jetty of the Bangladesh Navy ship BNS Mongla.
In the afternoon, the Prime Minister was scheduled to inspect the overall activities and jetty of Mongla Port. He was also scheduled to visit the proposed BEZA Economic Zone area afterwards.
After the inspections, he left for Dhaka by helicopter in the afternoon. And that moment of Raju's on the road in Dakop is now circulating on social media — as a memorable day in the life of a small vendor.
