Cyclone 'Arnab' May Strike India; Rain Likely in Bangladesh on Tuesday

Staff Reporter

A possible cyclone named 'Arnab' may strike India. Under its influence, Bangladesh may see rain next Tuesday, according to weather-related sources. People in the coastal regions are already watching this weather situation developing over the Bay of Bengal.

The cyclone has been named 'Arnab'. However, there is still no final picture of exactly where it may make landfall or with what strength. Usually, after a low pressure forms over the sea, it gradually gathers strength into a cyclone, and its track becomes clearer with time.

No direct hit on Bangladesh has been mentioned so far; rather, if the cyclone strikes neighbouring India, its indirect influence may bring rain to this country. That rain is expected to be possible on Tuesday.

The months of October and November are known as the cyclone season in the Bay of Bengal. With the sea water remaining warm after the monsoon, conditions during this period are favourable for the formation of low pressures and cyclones. Many powerful cyclones that have struck the coasts of Bangladesh and India in history came in this very season.

This is also the season when the Aman paddy ripens. Excessive rain at this stage, when the paddy is maturing in the fields, carries a risk of crop damage. News of a cyclone therefore means added worry for farmers in coastal and agriculture-dependent regions.

Rain would affect urban areas as well. Waterlogging and traffic congestion from rain at this time of year are familiar miseries in the capital and other big cities, so city dwellers too are watching the rain forecast.

Such a situation is also important for the fishing communities of the coastal districts. If there are signs of the sea turning rough, fishing boats and trawlers must prepare to return to safety. Every updated weather bulletin is therefore crucial for them.

Since weather situations can change quickly, the most important advice is to keep an eye on official updated information about the sea conditions and the cyclone's track. Everyone should follow messages from reliable sources rather than rumours or unverified information.

How strong Cyclone 'Arnab' ultimately becomes, where it makes landfall, and how much rain Bangladesh receives will become clear from the weather situation over the coming days. For now, all eyes are on the possibility of rain on Tuesday.
