NCP Announces Reconstituted 195-Member Central Committee: Nahid Stays Convener, Akhtar Member Secretary
The National Citizen Party (NCP) has formally announced its reconstituted new central committee of 195 members. Md Nahid Islam has been retained as convener and Akhtar Hossain as member secretary.
The names and positions of the reconstituted committee were published on Friday (October 23) morning in a notice signed by the party's office secretary, Sadia Farzana Dinar.
The announced committee includes the central leadership, a 16-member political council, various secretarial departments, divisional organising secretaries, assistant secretaries and general members — in other words, the party's entire central structure has been rearranged.
According to the notice, Nasiruddin Patwary and Hasnat Abdullah have been made senior joint conveners of the reconstituted committee. Md Sarjis Alam and Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain have been given the responsibility of senior joint member secretaries. Familiar faces of the party have been kept in all four top positions.
Besides convener Nahid Islam and member secretary Akhtar Hossain, the party's highest policy-making forum — the 16-member 'political council' — also includes Nasiruddin Patwary, Hasnat Abdullah, Sarjis Alam, Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain, Abdullah Al Amin, Ariful Islam Adeeb, Atik Mujahid, Abdul Hannan Masud, Ali Ahsan Junayed, Sarwar Tushar, Akram Hossain, Saleh Uddin Sifat, Mahmuda Alam Mitu and Nusrat Tabassum.
Those made joint conveners in the new committee include Samantha Sharmin, Monira Sharmin, Barrister Sani Abdul Haque, Mahbub Alam, Mujahidul Islam Shaheen, Maulana Ashraf Mahadi, Sultan Mohammad Zakaria, Zabed Rasin, Ehtesham Haque, Dilshana Parul, Pritam Das, Ishak Sarkar, Tarek A Adel and AK Flora, among others.
Those who found places as joint member secretaries are Alauddin Mohammad, SM Saif Mustafiz, Md Nizam Uddin, Nahida Sarwar Niva, Faridul Haque and Md Ataullah.
To increase organisational dynamism and handle sector-specific work, the new structure includes secretarial posts on various subjects including international affairs, office, law, publicity, education, women's affairs, the July mass uprising, environment and human rights.
As divisional organising secretaries, Saifullah Haider has been given Dhaka Division (North), ASM Sujauddin Chattogram Division (South), Imran Emon Rajshahi Division, and Navid Nawroz Shah Chattogram Division (North). The committee also includes 19 assistant secretaries and 58 general members.
Party sources said the main purpose of the restructuring is to make the party's decision-making process more consolidated and to strengthen coordination with the grassroots by reorganising the central structure.
Two major goals lie behind the overhaul. Party sources said the reconstitution was carried out as preparation ahead of the local government elections to be held in February next year and the NCP's first national council.
As a result, this announced 195-member committee will now be in charge of preparations for the local government elections and of organising the first national council. Keeping continuity in the top leadership while bringing in a large number of leaders at the lower tiers is the main feature of this committee.
