477 Arrested in 24 Hours in DMP Raids Across the Capital, Most in Mirpur

Staff Reporter

A total of 477 people were arrested in the last 24 hours in regular raids by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in the capital. During the same period, 34 cases were also filed at various police stations in the capital. DMP Additional Deputy Commissioner Niaz Mehdi gave this information on Friday (23 October) afternoon.

He said: 'Raids were carried out in various police station areas of the capital and the arrestees were held along with the recovery of various evidence and narcotics. The process of taking further legal action against those arrested is under way.'

By division, the highest number of accused were caught in the Mirpur division — 161 people were arrested there alone. That is roughly one-third of all the arrests coming from this single division.

Next was the Tejgaon division with 85 arrests. In the Gulshan division 52 people were arrested, and in the Uttara division 46.

Among the remaining divisions, 36 people were arrested in the Motijheel division, 35 in Wari, 34 in Lalbagh and 25 in Ramna. In addition, the Detective Branch (DB) arrested 3 people.

Police also recovered a quantity of drugs and evidence during the raids. The recovered items include 436 yaba tablets, 4 bottles of foreign liquor, 7 mobile phones and Tk 6,550 in cash.

The DMP said one victim was also rescued in this operation. However, no detailed information about the rescued victim had been provided by the time this report was written.

The DMP says this is part of its regular operations. Such drives continue at the police-station level to keep the capital's law and order situation normal.

Legal action against those arrested is being processed at the respective police stations. The accused in the 34 filed cases will be sent through the next stages of the process via the courts.

The figure of nearly five hundred arrests in a single day paints a picture of police activity in the capital. In particular, the 161 arrests in the Mirpur division alone is the most notable aspect of this operation.
