Jahangir murder: wife Taslima alleges younger brother Alamgir planned and financed it, seeks PBI probe
Fresh sensation has been created over the murder of Zahidul Alam Jahangir, president of Mithamain Upazila BNP in Kishoreganj. The planner and financier of the murder is his own younger brother Alamgir Shikdar — that is the allegation made on Saturday afternoon by the slain man's wife, Taslima Akter. She made the allegation at a press conference at the residence of the late Jahangir in the Beribadh area of Mithamain.
Taslima claims that Helal, one of the accused in the murder, phoned her from jail and gave her this information. It was on the basis of that phone conversation that she pointed the finger at the younger brother, she told the press conference. However, police have expressed doubt about the authenticity of that phone conversation, so the allegation is now a matter for investigation and verification.
At the press conference, Taslima Akter also raised serious allegations about the role of Mithamain police station OC Monowar. Her allegation is that after accused Helal was taken on remand, OC Monowar beat him and pushed an injection into his body because he had named Alamgir. For that reason Helal was forced not to name Alamgir in his statement under Section 164. She also demanded a judicial inquiry against OC Monowar.
Taslima asked why, after expelled Chhatra Dal leader Khoka was arrested and brought to the police station, he was given an opportunity to meet Alamgir Shikdar without giving the complainant a chance to see him. Her further claim is that at the start of the case Alamgir Shikdar's passport was seized. Why was he later helped to flee the country by being given the passport back — she has sought an answer to that question as well.
The slain man's wife claims that since the murder case was transferred from Mithamain police station to the DB, Alamgir Shikdar has been absconding. She demanded that the administration seize his passport as quickly as possible. If any person or authority helped him leave the country, that too must be brought under investigation, she said.
Taslima said that a few days before his death, her husband Zahidul Alam Jahangir had filed a complaint at the police station against Alamgir Shikdar. In the complaint he expressed fear that Alamgir might kill him — and, she claims, that fear came true. The investigating officer of that complaint was SI Sabbir. Why Sabbir was transferred in a hurry the day after the murder — she has sought an answer to that as well.
Another name has also come up in the slain man's wife's allegations — Bachchu. Her allegation is that Bachchu is a main accused in this murder. There are allegations of Bachchu's involvement in various matters including hiring killers, sheltering the killers and renting a house for them to stay in. Despite such important allegations, why Bachchu has still not been arrested — she raised that question too.
Taslima Akter further said, 'To complete the investigation neutrally and transparently, I have applied to transfer the case to the PBI. I strongly demand that the investigation of this case be handed over to the PBI quickly, so that the real truth is revealed and every person involved in the murder is brought under the law.' The case is currently being investigated by the DB.
At the press conference, the late Jahangir's elder sister Nadira Parveen also made allegations. She said, 'Alamgir is threatening us siblings over the phone so that we do not make a fuss about this murder.' The family's allegation of threats was also raised at the press conference.
However, the late Jahangir's younger brother Alamgir has denied these allegations. He said, 'These allegations are conspiratorial and baseless.' As a result, completely opposite statements are coming from two sides of the same family, and determining their truth now rests on the investigation.
Mithamain police station OC Monowar Hossain has expressed doubt as to whether accused Helal and complainant Taslima were actually the people in the phone conversation. He suspects the conversation was AI-generated. Asked about the progress of the case, he said the case is currently being investigated by the DB.
District Police Superintendent Mizanur Rahman said the phone conversation matter also seems suspicious to them. However, the complainant's side should not have made it public. It is an internal police matter. He said, 'We will investigate and look into it. We will write to the higher authorities about this. No one involved in the incident will be spared.'
As a result, several questions have now come to the fore together in the Jahangir murder case — whether the phone conversation is real or AI-generated, how strong the basis of the allegation against Alamgir is, why Bachchu has not been arrested and whether the case will go to the PBI. After the press conference, the answers to these questions depend on the next steps of the investigation.
