Feedback at Fifty: New Album, Concerts and a Documentary in a Year-Long Golden Jubilee
Feedback, one of the country's most popular bands, has stepped into its fiftieth year. The band began its journey in October 1977, when its name was Feedback Twentieth Century. Around 1979-80, part of the earlier name was dropped and it became known simply as Feedback — the name under which it has travelled five decades.
Over this long journey, Feedback has gathered timeless songs including 'Mousumi', 'Mela', 'Chithi', 'Moyuri Akash' and 'Fire Esho'. These songs have lived with listeners generation after generation, and the golden jubilee celebrations have been planned around that heritage. This year the band completed 49 years and entered its fiftieth.
For the golden jubilee, Feedback has planned a range of events throughout the year. They include the release of a new album, re-recording old songs in new arrangements, concerts at home and abroad, and a documentary on the band's five-decade history.
Details of the fiftieth-anniversary plans were presented at a press conference held in Dhaka yesterday. The outline of each event was announced there — what will happen when, and how listeners will be brought into the celebration.
About the new album, it was announced that Feedback's last album, 'Ekhon', was released 11 years ago. For the golden jubilee, the band has taken the initiative to release a new album. Work on six songs has already been completed. Feedback wants to release the album before the fiftieth anniversary in October next year.
Alongside the new album, an initiative has been taken to release Feedback's popular old songs in new musical arrangements. There are plans to involve other bands and solo artistes in these songs. The effort is mainly aimed at presenting Feedback's timeless songs afresh to a new generation.
The concert plan is extensive as well. For the golden jubilee, Feedback plans to hold concerts at home and abroad throughout the year. It will begin in Chattogram and end in Dhaka in October 2027. In between, the band will perform in different places across the country. There are also plans to involve former members of the band in these concerts.
Beyond that, a 25-minute documentary will be made on the band's five-decade history. In it, former and current members of Feedback will share their experiences of the band's long journey and the many little-known chapters of its musical life.
At the press conference, Feedback member Foad Nasser Babu said: 'We are deeply grateful to everyone involved in Feedback's long journey. Just as an institution has to be built with care, a band also has to be nurtured and preserved. That sense of responsibility is what has carried Feedback forward for five decades.'
He added that through the golden jubilee celebration — a meeting of new songs and old memories — they want to strengthen their bond with listeners further. Their programme will continue until October 2027, and they will try to keep something new in the events, he said.
Also present at the press conference were Hamin Ahmed of the band Miles, Said Hasan Tipu of Obscure, singer Rafiqul Alam, lyricist Shahid Mahmud Jangi and many others. Their remarks brought up various little-known chapters of Feedback's long journey.
Altogether, this five-decade milestone is not just a band's anniversary — through year-long events from a new album to a documentary, Feedback wants to reach a new generation alongside its old listeners, and that journey begins with the concert in Chattogram.
