Six Young Men Injured in Explosion While Making Hand Bombs in Muladi, Two in Critical Condition
Six young men have been injured in an explosion while making hand bombs in Muladi upazila of Barisal. Two of them are in critical condition, local people said.
The incident took place late on Friday night at a house in Uttar Baliatoli village under Safipur Union of the upazila.
Local sources said the six young men were sitting in a room that night making hand bombs. In a sudden explosion, all of them were injured.
The identities of two of the injured have been found. They are Yakub Hawlader (22), son of Dadan Hawlader of Uttar Baliatoli village, and Salman (21), son of Abdur Razzak Master of Tumchar village under Batamara Union. The identities of the other four were not known.
After the incident, relatives and associates of the injured took them to Dhaka in great secrecy, it has been learned.
Local people say that, to avoid suspicion, they were admitted to three or four hospitals in Dhaka. As a result, confirming locally the injured men's exact location and details of their treatment has become difficult.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, a resident of the area alleged that an organised group has long been dominating the area.
He alleged that to hold on to that dominance and to resist rivals, they are stockpiling hand bombs, cocktails and locally made weapons. He claimed various sides are storing such bombs in the area.
These allegations have come in the report as the account of a local resident; no specific confirmation of them from the police is included in the material available.
Muladi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khandaker Md. Sohel Rana said that on receiving the news, police visited the Uttar Baliatoli area and an investigation into the matter has begun.
The OC also said no local resident is giving information about this. News has been received that the injured persons are taking treatment in secret, and a search for them is under way.
