BGB Thwarts Push-In Attempt Along the Juri–Barlekha Border

Staff Reporter

The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has thwarted an attempted push-in along the border in Juri and Barlekha upazilas of Moulvibazar district. The attempt to push people across into Bangladesh from the other side of the border was foiled, according to reports.

Barlekha and Juri are two important border upazilas in Sylhet Division. Residents of the area have long been concerned about the risk of illegal entry and push-ins across this stretch of border.

Against that backdrop, the BGB's action has brought relief to people living near the border. The attempt failed because of the alert posture of the force guarding the frontier, local reports suggested.

A push-in means forcing citizens of one country, or other persons, across a border into another country without any formal process. When such incidents occur, they directly affect security and daily life in border areas.

Because Barlekha is a border upazila, its residents follow every development along the frontier closely. Any unusual activity at the border quickly becomes a subject of local discussion.

The BGB conducts regular patrols and surveillance along the border. The force stays on alert across the frontier to prevent illegal entry, smuggling and incidents such as push-ins.

No detailed information was yet available on exactly how many people were involved in this attempt. A fuller picture is expected if the BGB issues a formal statement.

Border residents say that if the BGB's presence and activity remain strong, such attempts can be prevented in the future as well. They have been demanding stronger border security.

The Juri–Barlekha border stretches across a long and wide area. Reports of attempted illegal crossings surface from time to time at various points along it, keeping the BGB constantly vigilant.

All in all, the foiling of this push-in attempt is another example of the BGB's active role in protecting the border. All concerned are watching the situation, and any new information will be reported as it emerges.
