The Barisal city, District South and District North committees of Jubo Dal were formed 10 years ago. Some were convening committees and some were partial committees. But the path for new leadership to emerge remains blocked by that same old leadership.

In the meantime, some leaders of these committees were expelled and later returned to their posts, some have died, and some have spent five years in acting roles. But no new full committee has been formed.

The 48th founding anniversary of Jubo Dal, which has produced no new leadership in a long 10 years, is today, Tuesday. Various separate programmes have been taken up for the day. There has long been anger and frustration among leaders and activists of the city, District South and District North units.

The city Jubo Dal committee was formed at the end of 2016. Its president, Aktaruzzaman Shamim, was relieved of his post in 2023 for inactivity. At one point, general secretary Masud Hasan Mamun was also expelled. Mamun returned to his post after five years.

Leaders and activists say that, with no new committee formed, Mamun now holds unchallenged dominance in city Jubo Dal. They say the organisation is now running in a makeshift way with the leaders of 10 years ago, keeping No. 3 vice-president Masudur Rahman Rari as president and Masud Hasan Mamun as general secretary.

Mazharul Islam Jahan, senior joint convener of city Jubo Dal, said the city Jubo Dal has been running with the same committee for 10 years and that new leadership should have been brought in during this time.

When city Jubo Dal general secretary Masud Hasan Mamun was called on his mobile phone for comment, he said he was busy. When called again later, he did not respond.

In April 2017, the Barisal District South Jubo Dal committee was formed with Parvez Akon Biplob as president and HM Taslim Uddin as general secretary. Biplob died on 9 February 2021. Since then, organisational activities in District South have been run with Masud Reza Khan as acting president and Taslim Uddin as general secretary.

No new leadership has come to District South in nine years either, although in this time Taslim Uddin has served as divisional assistant organising secretary, divisional assistant president and is now serving as a central assistant president.

Hafiz Ahmed Bablu, organising secretary of District South Jubo Dal, said an organisation cannot run this way and that new leadership is needed.

District South Jubo Dal general secretary HM Taslim Uddin said a new committee could not be formed because of the unstable situation, and that formation of a new committee is now at the threshold. He said that if he does not get a place in the BNP, he will be a candidate for Jubo Dal president.

The North District Jubo Dal convening committee formed in 2016 had Mahfuzur Rahman as convener and Salahuddin Piplu Jamaddar as member secretary. The committee was dissolved in 2020 over various allegations. Later, Piplu was made convener again. Golam Morshed Masud is currently the member secretary of the North unit.

North District Jubo Dal member secretary Golam Morshed Masud said five years is not a very long time. Jubo Dal central joint general secretary Moinuddin Rubel said the Barisal Jubo Dal leadership may be formed by combining new and old, but he said it is not true that central leaders are hostages to local leaders.
