Action is taken as soon as a rail ticket complaint is received, State Minister Habibur Rashid says in Feni
State Minister for the Ministry of Railways and the Road Transport and Highways Division Habibur Rashid Habib has said action is being taken as soon as any complaint about rail tickets is received.
He made the remarks in response to journalists' questions at the Feni railway station area at around 2:30am on Monday night (26 October). The state minister travelled by train from Dhaka to Feni on the first day's journey of the Mahanagar Express, which runs on the route extended up to Cox's Bazar.
Habibur Rashid Habib said: 'We take immediate action whenever we receive any complaint about corruption in the railways or about tickets. Since tickets are now sold online, we also take instant action if any complaint about railway tickets is received anywhere.'
Noting that the government wants to take railway services to people's doorsteps, he said the prime minister of the current government wants to take Bangladesh Railway's services to people's doorsteps. Those in charge at the ministry are working so that rail development and services increase day by day.
The state minister said: 'This is the area of the late Begum Khaleda Zia, the prime minister's uncle's home. Just as the prime minister is carrying out development across the country, she is also attentive to the development of the people of Feni.'
He said that as soon as the implementation of the Mahanagar Express was considered, local MP Rafiqul Alam Majnu was the first to demand a stopover and the maximum seat allocation for Feni. The prime minister has fulfilled that demand today. He believes Rafiqul Alam Majnu has been able to meet the expectations for which the people voted for the Bangladesh Nationalist Party and its candidate. The people of Feni will always have a claim on any railway development, he said.
The state minister also said there was previously a shortage of locomotives and garages. After the current government came to power, it has come out of the metre-gauge and locomotive shortage. The government and the ministry are working to increase these further.
Addressing the people of Feni, Habibur Rashid Habib said: 'Today is just the beginning. The more you buy tickets and travel by train, and go to Cox's Bazar and Chattogram, the more we will stand beside you in increasing rail garages and seats in this area. We will certainly work attentively to fulfil your demands.'
Earlier, the train reached Feni station at 1:55am. Before the journey began from Feni, State Minister Habibur Rashid Habib exchanged greetings with the train's passengers and welcomed them with flowers. Feni-1 MP Rafiqul Alam Majnu and senior railway officials were present at the time.
