The Milwaukee Brewers routed the Tampa Bay Rays 10-1 in Game 3 of the World Series in Tampa on Monday night, taking a 3-0 lead in the series and moving within one victory of the first World Series title in the club's history.

The star of the night was rookie left-hander Robert Gasser, who pitched one-hit ball and faced the minimum through six innings. Yandy Díaz led off the bottom of the first with a line-drive single off him, but Gasser then retired 14 straight batters before Victor Mesa Jr walked to start Tampa Bay's sixth.

Gasser's performance also earned a place in World Series history: he became the first left-hander to face the minimum 18 batters through six innings of a World Series game since Sandy Koufax did it for the Dodgers in 1965.

Milwaukee's batting explosion came in the fifth inning. Sparked by Jackson Chourio and Brice Turang, the Brewers scored eight runs in that single inning, effectively deciding the game.

In all, Milwaukee racked up 16 hits off Freddy Peralta and five Tampa Bay relievers. Chourio went 4 for 5, while William Contreras was 3 for 5.

The win was the Brewers' eighth straight in the postseason and their fourth in a row on the road. Many Brewers fans were at Tropicana Field on Monday, cheering from behind the visitors' dugout.

Game 4 will be played on Tuesday night at the same venue, Tropicana Field. A win would make the Milwaukee Brewers World Series champions for the first time; the Rays, by contrast, must win to keep the series alive.
