In Mallik Para village of Lakshmikunda Union in Ishwardi Upazila, Pabna, creditors allegedly blocked the burial of a businessman named Ujjwal Mallik, 45, over claimed unpaid money. On Tuesday, 27 October, the creditors kept his coffin bier blocked for about three hours.

The deceased Ujjwal Mallik was the son of Sofi Mallik of Mallik Para village. Family sources said he had been ill for a long time. He died on Tuesday morning on the way to Dhaka for advanced treatment.

His second wife, Chumki Khatun, said her husband was involved in the brick kiln business. According to her, some people blocked the burial of his body claiming money was owed to them.

Because of the creditors' obstruction, the burial could not take place at the scheduled time. The allegation says the bier carrying the body was held up for about three hours.

Ishwardi Police Station Sub-Inspector Mokul Hossain said the burial of Ujjwal Mallik's body was delayed in the face of the creditors' objection. On receiving the news, police quickly reached the spot and brought the situation under control.

Later, through mediation by police and local dignitaries, the family assured that the claimed money would be repaid. After that assurance, the burial was completed, Sub-Inspector Mokul Hossain said.
