A federal grand jury in Washington, D.C., has refused to indict Cassidy Hutchinson, a former White House aide to former President Donald Trump. The Justice Department had sought charges of lying to Congress against her.

Sources familiar with the matter confirmed the decision to ABC News. With the grand jury declining to indict, the charge the department sought does not move forward at this stage.

Hutchinson had testified before the House Select Committee that investigated the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. The Justice Department sought to charge her over alleged false statements in that testimony, according to the report.

Her testimony was a closely watched part of the January 6 investigation. She described events from her time working in the Trump White House when she appeared before the committee.

The grand jury decision was reported through sources familiar with the matter. ABC News described it as a developing story, with further details possibly to follow.
