A Russian jet-powered drone struck the Osnovianskyi district of Kharkiv, Ukraine, late on Tuesday, 27 October. Five people were injured in the strike, including a four-year-old boy. Residential and industrial buildings were set ablaze after the attack.

The fires spread across some 2,500 square metres. An apartment block, private homes, outbuildings and three industrial premises were engulfed, Ukraine's State Emergency Service said.

Nearby tower blocks, garages and cars were also damaged. According to the emergency service, the damage was not limited to the buildings that caught fire directly.

Elderly women and children were forced to evacuate their homes after the attack. Firefighters were seen leading a disabled woman to safety. Footage showed firefighters tackling the flames and rescue workers helping residents to safety as smoke rose over the neighbourhood.

Three of the five injured were taken to hospital. The report did not say the other two were taken to hospital.

Despite the risk of further Russian strikes, emergency crews brought the blaze under control. Psychologists assisted those affected, the emergency service account said.

The report said houses and industrial buildings were destroyed by fire. Rescue and firefighting work continued in the Osnovianskyi neighbourhood as smoke rose over the area.
