Staff Reporter

Mutual Trust Bank PLC (MTB) has signed two separate participation agreements with Bangladesh Bank. The agreements cover the Tk 1,000 crore 'Green Factory Building and Green Industry Refinance Scheme' and the Tk 1,000 crore refinance scheme for the development of the information and communications technology (ICT) sector.

The two agreements were signed at a ceremony held at Bangladesh Bank on 20 September 2026. MTB's managing director and chief executive Syed Mahbubur Rahman and A. K. M. Nurunnabi, director of Bangladesh Bank's Sustainable Finance Department, signed on behalf of their respective institutions.

Under the green scheme, financing facilities will be provided for building environmentally friendly factories and for green industrial enterprises. The initiative aims to help the industrial sector build environmentally sustainable infrastructure and invest in more efficient production systems.

Through the ICT scheme, ICT-related activities and institutions providing technology-based products and services will receive financing opportunities. The scheme covers emerging technology areas including software development, the Internet of Things (IoT), hardware and networking, artificial intelligence (AI), fintech, data analytics, cyber security, cloud computing, robotics and e-commerce.

MTB's deputy managing director and group chief risk officer Usman Rashed Mueen and Tahmina Zaman Khan, head of the Sustainable Finance Department, along with senior Bangladesh Bank officials, were present at the signing ceremony.

Through these two refinance facilities, MTB will provide loans to eligible enterprises in the green industry and ICT sectors. This will create opportunities for businesses to build environmentally friendly infrastructure, ensure proper use of resources, adopt new technology and expand technology-based products and services.
