Efforts to end the ongoing war in the Middle East have become more complicated. Iran has rejected a ceasefire proposal put forward by Qatar.

A senior Iranian official gave the information in a statement to the Reuters news agency on Wednesday (28 October). Tehran says the proposal is not acceptable.

Earlier, on Sunday, Qatar handed a draft agreement aimed at ending the war to Iranian negotiators. The proposal was intended to bring an end to the conflict that has been running for eight months.

At the same time, Iran has also restated its position that it will make no concession on its nuclear programme.

Meanwhile, fears have arisen that the United States and Israel could launch fresh attacks. That has created a risk that the conflict in the Middle East could spread further.
