Bangladesh national football team midfielder Hamza Choudhury has raised more than £100,000 through an initiative to help the children of Gaza. He announced the information in a Facebook post on Wednesday (28 October).

Hamza thanked everyone who took part in the fundraising initiative, donated and helped in various ways.

Hamza wrote: 'Alhamdulillah, we have been able to raise more than £100,000 for the children of Gaza.'

Hamza gave special thanks to Nuzum Sports for working for a long time to make the initiative succeed. In his words, the organisation's members worked tirelessly to turn his idea into reality.

The money raised will be spent on the work of 'Children Not Numbers', an organisation working with the children of Gaza. The organisation is based in Gaza and provides essential support to children there.

Hamza said that for many children, being moved outside Gaza for medical treatment is their only hope of survival. The money raised will be used to move them elsewhere for treatment.

Hamza expressed gratitude at being able to raise so much money through the initiative in a short time. However, he regards the amount as a small contribution compared with the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Hamza said: 'There is still a lot left to do. But however small it is, every effort can bring change.'

At the end of the post, Hamza prayed for the people of Palestine. He wrote: 'May Allah accept our efforts, ease the suffering of our brothers and sisters in Palestine, give them strength and patience, and bring lasting peace for them.'
