The Saudi-led coalition has successfully intercepted a ballistic missile fired by Yemen's Houthi rebels towards Saudi Arabia's eastern region. The coalition announced the interception in a statement on Thursday (October 29).

Coalition spokesman Turki al-Maliki said in a post on social media platform X that the ballistic missile fired by the Houthi militia at the eastern target was successfully intercepted and destroyed through the air defence system.

News agency AFP reported that the Iran-backed Houthi rebels have been carrying out a series of attacks on Saudi Arabia this month. Among them, the attack on Riyadh's international airport was the deadliest in the country in the past several years.

Earlier this week, the Houthis claimed they had fired a ballistic missile targeting the strategic Ras Tanura oil refinery in Saudi Arabia's oil-rich eastern region.

Saudi Arabia has consistently accused Iran of instigating the Houthis to escalate these attacks. Tehran, however, has strongly denied any involvement in the attacks.

According to analysts, fighting resumed in Yemen last July, ending an uneasy four-year ceasefire. Just a few months before that, tensions had begun between the United States and Iran, creating a fresh crisis and instability across the Middle East.
