Two Boxes Marked 'East Pakistan Police' Dug Up in Sakhipur, 12 Rocket-Launcher-Like Objects Inside
Two old iron boxes marked 'East Pakistan Police Tangail' have been recovered from beneath farmland in the Kochua Tholchala area of Sakhipur upazila in Tangail.
Police recovered the boxes from the farmland on Thursday (29 October) afternoon. Inside were 12 objects resembling rocket launchers and three round objects resembling hand bombs.
According to police and local sources, farmer Md Ashraf Ali was digging soil in the field with his son Shakil when they spotted two iron boxes under the ground.
They lifted the boxes out, placed them on the field's embankment and informed police. Sakhipur police went to the spot and recovered the objects.
Police said the recovered objects are very old and rusted. Each box contained six objects, 12 in total, resembling rocket launchers, along with three round bomb-like objects.
Both boxes carry a nameplate in English reading 'East Pakistan Police Tangail'.
Landowner Ashraf Ali said he found the iron boxes while digging with his son, then placed them on the embankment and called police.
Local UP member Hasan Ali said many people had gathered at the scene. He believes the objects are a very old relic, possibly equipment used by the East Pakistan Police during or before the 1971 Liberation War.
Sakhipur police officer-in-charge Murad Hossain said 12 old, rusted projectile-like objects were recovered. They are not grenades and have initially been identified as rocket launchers. They will be sent to the relevant department for examination.
