Thirteen die after drinking spurious liquor made at home using AI guidance in India's Dewas; 11 arrested

Thirteen people have died after drinking spurious liquor in the Dewas district of India's Madhya Pradesh. Police say a young man had learned, with the help of artificial intelligence, how to make liquor at home by mixing chemicals and water, and that this spurious liquor was then sold in the market.
Police have arrested 11 people in connection with the incident, including the main accused, 26-year-old Ajay Rathore. The use of AI in making the spurious liquor came to light during Ajay's interrogation.
On Wednesday (October 28), Shashikant Chourasia, an officer at the Dewas Kotwali police station, said Ajay had used AI to learn how to make liquor at home by mixing chemicals and water. He would then mix the spurious liquor with genuine liquor and sell it.
According to investigators, the spurious liquor was filled into collected empty bottles of licensed liquor and supplied to the market. The sales mainly targeted rural areas.
The police investigation found that the spurious liquor was produced at a house between October 2 and October 6-7. Govind, a resident of Lohar Piplia, and Rameshwar, a resident of Gadheshya Piplia, were involved in the work. The liquor was then sold between October 7 and October 12.
Police have also sealed a warehouse in Indore over allegations of supplying the chemicals. The investigation found that deaths from drinking the spurious liquor began on September 27. So far, 13 deaths have been reported in the incident.
Officials involved in the investigation have also expressed surprise that AI was used to make the spurious liquor. Police are continuing the investigation to identify others involved in the incident.
