The day-long farewell ceremony was held on Thursday, October 29, on the school grounds in the upazila's No. 9 Dhara Union. Teachers and students, former students, guardians and local dignitaries attended.
Munayem Khan founded the school on his own initiative on January 1, 1987. Over his long career since then, he served with honesty and dedication, bringing the light of education to countless students.
The ceremony was presided over by Upazila Assistant Education Officer Hafizul Islam. The chief guest was Upazila URC Instructor Rabbikul Alam. Special guests included the retiring head teacher's younger brother, Advocate Abdul Motaleb Khan, and Primary Teachers' Association president Abdul Hannan. Assistant teacher Rukhsana Akter Sumi conducted the programme.
The event opened with recitation from the Holy Quran, the national anthem and floral greetings. Speakers then recalled his long career, the founding of the school and his contribution to spreading education, saying that the dreams and success stories of countless students are bound up with the institution he built.
In an emotional farewell speech, Munayem Khan said: 'I have spent my wealth and many moments of joy and sorrow on this institution. I tried to do something for the area. Many of my students are now in good positions. I ask for everyone's prayers. Death and farewell are almost complements of each other.'
In the final part of the ceremony, colleagues, students and well-wishers showered him with affection. He was then sent off on horseback amid drumbeats and a festive atmosphere, as many students and colleagues were overcome with emotion.
The school currently has four female teachers and one male teacher. Following Munayem Khan's retirement, Parvez Khan has taken charge as acting head teacher.
