US death row inmate Christa Pike has released her first public statement since the failed attempt to execute her in September. Her legal team released the statement on social media on Friday.

In the statement, Pike said there has not been a moment since that night when she has not been in pain. She said her body hurts, her arms hurt, her hands hurt and her throat hurts, and that she still struggles to speak.

She said the pain is not only physical. There is also pain in her mind and in her soul, she said in the statement.

Pike is 50 years old. In September an attempt was made to execute her by lethal injection. She survived two lethal injections of the drug pentobarbital, which left her in a critical condition.

She was discharged from hospital at the end of last month. This is her first public statement since the September incident.
