Fire in a tubelight at Munshiganj General Hospital's children's ward, patients brought down safely after panic

Staff Reporter

A fire broke out in an electric tubelight in the children's ward of the 250-bed Munshiganj General Hospital. The incident took place at 7:15pm on Friday in children's ward No. 5 on the fifth floor of the hospital's seven-storey building.

After the fire broke out, panic spread among patients and relatives in the children's ward. The patients later came down safely from the ward.

The Fire Service said the fire remained confined to the tubelight and did not spread elsewhere. No one was injured.

Two Fire Service units later brought the fire under control with the help of local people. It is initially believed the fire started from an electrical fault. The hospital narrowly avoided a major accident.

Muhammad Shafikul Islam, deputy assistant director of Munshiganj Fire Service and Civil Defence, said news of the fire at the hospital reached the fire station's sentry post at 7:15pm on Friday. On receiving the news, two units from Munshiganj Fire Station quickly reached the scene.

He added that firefighters found a fire in an electric tubelight in children's ward No. 5 on the fifth floor. The fire was later extinguished with the help of local people.
