In Panchagarh, Sarjis Alam says BNP has grown unpopular in 8 months; NCP to fight Dhaka's two city polls alone

Sarjis Alam, senior joint member secretary of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has said the people of Bangladesh have seen the BNP become steadily unpopular over the past eight months. The number of killings has risen every month, the number of rapes has risen, and prices have increased, he commented.
He made the remarks while speaking to reporters on Saturday afternoon after the inauguration ceremony of the daily Panchagarh Khabar newspaper at the Panchagarh Sadar Upazila Parishad hall room.
Sarjis Alam said good governance has declined in these eight months. From that position, the NCP believes the people will choose the NCP as an alternative. They will fight that fight on behalf of the people, he said.
On local elections, Sarjis said they had an electoral alliance with Jamaat-e-Islami. Now they are working together in parliament as an opposition alliance, and that alliance is still continuing. But local elections are their party decision.
He said Jamaat will also contest alone from its position, and the NCP will contest alone. Keeping that in mind, they have made Nasir Uddin Patwary and Asif Mahmud mayoral candidates in Dhaka's two city corporations.
Sarjis Alam said they were not made candidates for any kind of compromise. They will continue their fight until the last moment, he said.
Earlier at the event, State Minister for Water Resources Farhad Hossain Azad inaugurated the daily Panchagarh Khabar newspaper as chief guest. The newspaper is being published under the editorship of journalist Mosharraf Hossain.
District Council Administrator M A Majid, district BNP convener Zahirul Islam Kachchu, district Jamaat ameer Maulana Iqbal Hossain, and Panchagarh court public prosecutor Mirza Nazmul Islam Kajol were present at the event. The event was held at the Panchagarh Sadar Upazila Parishad hall room.
