Manchester City suffer second straight Premier League defeat, losing to Brighton

Staff Reporter

Manchester City have lost two matches in a row in the English Premier League. After losing to Aston Villa, City were beaten by Brighton & Hove Albion in the next match. Swedish midfielder Yasin Ayari scored the only winning goal for the visitors early in the match.

City kept control of the ball and attacked from the start of the match. But Brighton went ahead in the 11th minute. Taking advantage of a weakness in City's defence, 21-year-old midfielder Yasin Ayari put the ball in the net, giving Brighton a 1-0 lead early on.

Falling behind, the league leaders became desperate to equalise. Despite attacking repeatedly for the rest of the first half, the hosts could not find a goal. In the second half they kept up the pressure around Brighton's box with attack after attack, but Ruben Dias's side still could not get the goal they wanted. With no further goals, City had to accept a 1-0 defeat at home.

Among the day's other matches, Bournemouth beat Leeds United 2-0, with goals from Evanilson and Amine Adil. Coventry City beat Sunderland 3-1. Brentford's two goals in their win over Nottingham Forest were scored by Igor Thiago and Nikola Milenkovic. Hull City and Ipswich Town shared the points.

Despite this defeat, Manchester City have held on to top spot in the table with 21 points from nine matches. With this win, Brighton & Hove Albion have risen to third with 19 points from nine matches. Arsenal are second, having played one match fewer.
