Student-Life Politics Must Not Shadow Your Career, Home Minister Tells New Police and Ansar Officers
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmad has said that officers may have had political affiliations during their student life, but those must not be reflected in their professional life in any way. He made the remarks on Sunday afternoon while addressing, as chief guest, a briefing and orientation meeting for newly joined officers of the 45th BCS (Police) and BCS (Ansar) cadres at the Home Ministry's conference room at the Secretariat.
The Home Minister called on the new officers to uphold the image of the police force and to remain alert so that power is not abused under any circumstances. He also urged them to exercise the utmost caution and judgement in enforcing the law.
Earlier on Sunday (November 1), 65 officers joined the BCS (Police) cadre and 19 officers joined the BCS (Ansar) cadre at the Home Ministry. The briefing and orientation meeting was organised for these new officers.
Congratulating the new officers, the Home Minister said, 'Your foremost duty in the superior service is to keep the country's law and order under control and thereby ensure a favourable environment for all activities of the country to run smoothly. Administration, development, overall social security and the people's peace of mind depend to a large extent on your work.'
Issuing a strict instruction, he said, 'Throughout your service life you must always follow discipline and service rules, and obey the lawful orders of senior officers.'
The minister added that the police and Ansar services are completely different from other cadre services and extremely challenging. Decisions have to be taken in an instant here, where intelligence, professionalism and presence of mind are essential.
Chaired by Home Ministry Senior Secretary Monjur Morshed Chowdhury, the event was also addressed by IGP (in-charge) and Additional IGP (Administration) A K M Awlad Hossain and Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party Director General Major General Abdul Motaleb Sazzad Mahmud as special guests.
