Koli Rani of Rangpur was born without fingers on either hand and has never been able to hold a pen in the usual way. Writing with her right foot, she has now scored GPA 3.50 in this year's HSC examinations from the humanities group.

Koli Rani is a student of Kaunia College in Rangpur. Her home is at Gadai village in Kaunia upazila.

Koli is the youngest of the three sons and three daughters of the late Manoranjan Roy. She lost her father while she was in class three.

After her father's death, Koli carried on her studies with the encouragement of her mother Rupali Rani and the support of her family members.

Her mother Rupali Rani said Koli was born without fingers on either hand and developed the habit of writing with her foot from early childhood. Despite many obstacles, her interest in studies never waned.

Rupali Rani added that, alongside the family, the support of classmates and teachers gave Koli the courage to move forward.

Relatives and classmates say Koli is skilled not only in studies but in other work as well. Using her right foot, she can easily operate a mobile phone and a computer.

Koli also has a special interest in singing. She has won prizes and praise for performing songs at various programmes.

Rafikul Islam, acting principal of the Kaunia Mohila College centre and its centre secretary, said that under board guidelines a separate room is arranged for candidates with physical disabilities. Koli, however, wanted to sit the exams together with the other students.

Rafikul Islam said that, respecting her wish, arrangements were made for her to take the exams alongside the general candidates. She also received the additional 30 minutes allowed under the rules, completed all her exams comfortably and passed successfully.

Faruk Azam, principal of Kaunia College, said: "Koli scored GPA 3.50 in the HSC writing with her foot. We are delighted and proud of her achievement."

Speaking about her future plans, Koli said she wants to complete her higher education and become a BCS cadre. Her dream is to work for the welfare of the country and its people.

Koli said she wants her success to carry the message that physical limitations cannot stand in the way of achieving life's goals. She has sought everyone's blessings and support as she moves towards fulfilling her dream.
