Court Orders Diamond World MD Dilip Agarwala Shown Arrested in ACC Case

Staff Reporter

A court has ordered that Dilip Kumar Agarwala, managing director (MD) of Diamond World, be shown arrested in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) over allegations of acquiring wealth beyond known sources of income and money laundering.

Judge Md Shahjahan Kabir of Dhaka's Metropolitan Senior Special Judge's Court gave the order on Monday (2 November) in response to the ACC's application.

ACC Assistant Director Sajjad Hossain, the investigating officer of the case, filed the application seeking to show the accused arrested in the case. The application says Agarwala is accused of acquiring and holding, through dishonest means, assets worth Tk 112 crore 47 lakh 28 thousand 407 that are inconsistent with his known sources of income.

The ACC application further says the investigation has initially found the accused's involvement in the offence, and that showing him arrested is necessary in the interest of a proper investigation.

According to the application, 34 bank accounts operated in his name and in the names of related institutions recorded deposits of Tk 385 crore 32 lakh 62 thousand 123 and withdrawals of Tk 369 crore 97 lakh 94 thousand 140. Transactions totalling Tk 755 crore 30 lakh 56 thousand 263 through those accounts are alleged to have been used to transfer, convert and hand over money.

The case was filed earlier, on 8 October 2025, by the ACC's Integrated District Office, Dhaka-1, on these allegations. Dilip Kumar Agarwala was a member of the Awami League's former central industry and commerce subcommittee.
