Acting Head Teacher Handed to Police in Chuadanga's Alamdanga Over Harassment Allegation, Five-Member Probe Formed

In Alamdanga upazila of Chuadanga, parents and local residents detained the acting head teacher of a government primary school and handed him to police over an allegation of sexually harassing a fourth-grade student. The incident took place at the school on Monday afternoon.

The accused teacher's name is Inamul (45). Local sources say the allegation against him is of indecent behaviour and unwanted sexual touching involving the fourth-grade student of the school.

When the matter became known, anger spread among the student's parents and local residents. At one stage they gathered at the school, confined the teacher in a classroom and locked it from outside.

On receiving the news, police members from the Gangni investigation centre went to the spot. They spoke with local people, brought the situation under control and rescued the teacher who had been confined in the classroom. He was then taken to Alamdanga Police Station.

The child's father has filed a case against the teacher as plaintiff. Mohammad Rakibul Islam, officer-in-charge of Alamdanga Police Station, said: 'The child's father has filed a case against the teacher. He will be sent to court tomorrow, Tuesday.'

Alongside this, the upazila primary education office has formed a five-member committee to investigate the allegation. Alamdanga Upazila Primary Education Officer Md Alauddin said: 'I received information about this from a secret source a day before the incident. I then formed a five-member committee for the investigation. The committee has been asked to submit its report within the next seven working days.'

Md Alauddin also said that if the allegation is found to be true, punitive action will be taken against the teacher.

Meanwhile, several local residents have claimed that there were various complaints against the accused teacher from before. They allege that he regularly consumes cannabis and yaba. This claim is the local residents'; the investigation of the incident is now with the police and the education office committee.
