The previous day, on Saturday, the military struck a school in Loikaw town in eastern Karenni state, while a nutrition programme for children was under way at the school on a holiday. Three children were killed in that attack and eight more were injured.
Taken together, the two days of attacks killed 15 people, among them children, and injured a total of 40.
Myanmar has long been in the grip of civil war. Conflict in the country intensified after the military, led by Min Aung Hlaing, ousted the elected government in February 2021.
Multiple ethnic armed opposition groups are fighting the military-led government in various regions of the country.
A large number of Rohingya live in Rakhine state. This mainly Muslim minority community has long faced persecution by Myanmar's military and various armed groups.
