Cyber-attack disables supermarket fridges in nine European countries, spoiling large amounts of food

Refrigeration and freezer systems at supermarkets in at least nine European countries have been hit by a cyber-attack. In the attack, carried out on Monday, November 2, fridge temperatures rose and large amounts of food products were spoiled at various stores.
The countries where supermarkets reported the problem are Belgium, Estonia, Finland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal and Sweden.
The European Union says the attack may have been carried out deliberately to disrupt the bloc's food supply system.
EU food and agriculture commissioner Christophe Hansen said the incidents should be taken seriously.
About three weeks earlier, grocery stores in France were hit by a similar cyber-attack. In that incident, spoiled food products had to be thrown away from several hundred stores.
No one has yet claimed responsibility for any of the attacks, according to the report.
