Body of Former Chhatra League Leader Recovered from Rented House in Gazipur's Sreepur, Young Woman Missing

The body of a former Chhatra League leader named Shahin Hossain (32) has been recovered from a room of a rented house in Sreepur, Gazipur. Police initially suspect he was strangled to death. A young woman who had been living with him at the house has been missing since the incident.
Shahin's body was recovered at around 8 p.m. on Monday (November 2) from a room in the four-storey house of Dulal Mia in the Rajendrapur area of Rajabari union in the upazila.
Shahin was the son of Ratan Mia of Nayagaon village in the same union. He was a former general secretary of the Rajabari union Chhatra League.
The elder brother of the deceased, Azahar Hossain, said Shahin had left home about five months ago. After that, he had no contact with any member of the family.
Azahar Hossain said that at around 12:30 p.m. on Monday, Shahin's friend Alamgir Hossain phoned him with the news of the killing. When he then went to the spot, he found the house locked from the outside. He then informed the police by calling the national emergency service 999.
According to Azahar Hossain, police came at night, broke the lock of the door and found Shahin's body on the bed inside the room. There were marks of injury on his neck. The family believes he was strangled with a strong GI wire wrapped around his neck. They also believe the killers locked the room from the outside after the murder and left.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sreepur police station Shahinur Alam said the house was locked from the outside when the body was recovered. It is initially suspected that the killers fled after strangling him to death. The body has been sent to the morgue of Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.
The OC also said that, according to local residents, Shahin had been living at the house with a young woman. The young woman has not been found since the incident. The matter is being investigated with importance and necessary legal action will be taken over the incident.
