The High Court has stayed the effectiveness of the decision to cancel the governing bodies and ad hoc committees of Fazil and Kamil madrasas under the Islamic Arabic University. The court also issued a rule asking why the decision should not be declared illegal.

A High Court bench of Justice Sikder Mahmudur Razi and Justice Fatema Anwar passed the order on Monday (November 2) after hearing a writ petition.

The court asked the respondents concerned to reply to the rule. Lawyer Parvez Hossain took part in the hearing for the writ petition.

On October 19, the university authorities cancelled the governing bodies and ad hoc committees of the affiliated Fazil and Kamil madrasas through an office order.

The office order said the committees were cancelled in line with a decision of the university's 43rd syndicate meeting held on October 15.

As a result of the High Court's stay order, the university's cancellation decision is not taking effect for now. The court's next decision on the matter will come after the replies to the rule and further hearings.
