Newly Elected MPs Mirza Faisal Amin of Thakurgaon-1 and Eliza Zaman of the Reserved Women's Seat Take Oath Today

The swearing-in of Mirza Faisal Amin, the newly elected member of parliament from the Thakurgaon-1 by-election, and Eliza Zaman, elected in the by-election to reserved women's seat-23, is being held today, Tuesday (3 November).
Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Hafiz Uddin Ahmad (Bir Bikram) will administer the oath to the two newly elected MPs in the Speaker's office room at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
Chief Whip of the Jatiya Sangsad Nurul Islam Moni has confirmed the matter.
Earlier, in the Thakurgaon-1 by-election held on 29 October, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)-nominated candidate Mirza Faisal Amin was unofficially declared the winner with 227,917 votes under the 'sheaf of paddy' symbol.
His nearest rival, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami-nominated candidate Delawar Hossain, received 96,513 votes under the 'scales' symbol.
The seat had been declared vacant by the Election Commission after Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the then BNP secretary general who was elected from this seat in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election held on 12 February, was elected the country's 23rd President.
A gazette was subsequently published on Saturday declaring Mirza Faisal Amin the winner.
Meanwhile, reserved women's seat-23 fell vacant after Ferdousi Ahmed Mishti, a BNP MP from a reserved women's seat, resigned on 1 October.
The Election Commission then announced a schedule, but as there was a single candidate, a gazette was published on Monday declaring BNP-nominated candidate Eliza Zaman elected unopposed as a member of parliament.
