Uninterrupted Supply Requires More Power From Own Sources, PM Says at Solar Expo
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has stressed raising electricity generation from Bangladesh's own sources to build a self-reliant country. He said uninterrupted electricity supply must be ensured by generating more power from domestic sources, and the Bangladesh Solar Expo is an important step towards that goal.
He made the remarks as chief guest at the opening ceremony of the Bangladesh Solar Expo-2026 at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in the capital on Tuesday morning (November 3). At the same event he said three to four thousand megawatts of solar power will be added to the national grid before summer.
The prime minister said the solar expo has been organised, in continuation of the steps the present government has taken and will take to establish a self-reliant Bangladesh, to achieve the electricity generation targets.
He added that the participation of solar-sector entrepreneurs, service providers and young workers from different regions of the country in the expo proves that electricity can be generated affordably instead of the plunder carried out in the name of quick rentals.
In the prime minister's words, renewable energy in Bangladesh is no longer just a sector of possibility; it is now an unavoidable reality.
Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud chaired the opening ceremony. This year's expo theme is 'Use every inch of roof, earn more from solar power'.
