Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has inaugurated the two-day Solar Expo-2026 in the capital. He formally opened the exhibition this morning at the China Maitree International Conference Centre in Agargaon.
The exhibition is being held under the theme 'Use every inch of the roof, increase income from solar power'. After the inauguration, the prime minister toured the exhibition.
Modern solar-power technology is on display at the expo. Policymakers, government agencies, development partners, financial institutions, technology suppliers and entrepreneurs are taking part.
The Power Division, the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources and Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL) have jointly organised the solar expo for the first time.
Organisers said the aim is to support implementation of the National Renewable Energy Development Strategy (2026-2030) and to inform stakeholders about government policies and incentives for expanding solar power.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, State Minister Anindya Islam Amit, and ministers, state ministers, members of parliament, secretaries and senior officials from various ministries.
The exhibition is showcasing government incentives, modern environmentally friendly technology, tax and duty benefits, green and climate finance, carbon credits, solar-powered irrigation, and training and skills development opportunities in the renewable energy sector.
Earlier, on Monday (2 November), the 26th cabinet meeting at the Secretariat gave final approval to the draft 'Special Solar Power Installation Act, 2026', prepared to rapidly expand solar power installation activities.
Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani presented the approval at a briefing after the meeting. The draft was approved subject to vetting by the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division, so that the ordinance issued earlier can be turned into law through the national parliament in line with the constitution.
