Osman Hadi Murder: Further Investigation Report Deferred for 21st Time, New Date December 7
A court has again deferred the deadline for submitting the further investigation report in the murder case of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi. The new date has been set for December 7. This is the 21st time the submission date for the further investigation report in this murder case has been pushed back.
Tuesday was the scheduled date for presenting the report at Dhaka's Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court. As the investigating agency, the police Criminal Investigation Department (CID), did not submit the report, Dhaka's Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Joshita Islam set the new date.
Sub-Inspector Rokonuzzaman, an officer of the court's general registration branch, confirmed the matter.
According to the case details, on December 12 last year, Osman Hadi was seriously injured when armed assailants shot him at around 2:15 pm on Box Culvert Road in the capital's Paltan area, as he was returning after offering Jummah prayers.
Inqilab Mancha member secretary Abdullah Al Jaber filed a case with Paltan Police Station on December 14 over the incident. Hadi was later taken to Singapore for advanced treatment but died there on December 18 while undergoing treatment.
Following an application by the investigating officer, the court then ordered the addition of the murder charge, Section 302 of the Penal Code, to the case.
Earlier, on January 6, Inspector Faysal Ahmed of the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) of police submitted a charge sheet to the court against 17 people. Of the accused named in that charge sheet, 11 are in jail and six are absconding.
However, expressing dissatisfaction with the DB's investigation report, the plaintiff filed a naraji (no-confidence) petition on January 15. The court granted it and handed the further investigation of the case to the CID. That further investigation report now awaits December 7.
