Four US states could elect their first woman governor in the midterms
Four US states could elect a woman governor for the first time in this year’s midterm elections: Georgia, Minnesota, Tennessee and Ohio.
According to a CNN report, women candidates are contesting the governorship in each of those states. If any of them wins, she will become the first woman to hold the office in her state’s history.
In Georgia, Democratic candidate Keisha Lance Bottoms would not only become the state’s first woman governor if she wins, she would also make history as the first Black woman governor in the United States.
In Minnesota, Democratic candidate and Senator Amy Klobuchar would give the state its first woman governor if she wins.
In Tennessee, Republican candidate and Senator Marsha Blackburn is running against Democratic candidate Jerri Green. A Blackburn victory would also produce the state’s first woman governor.
In Ohio, Democratic candidate Amy Acton is facing Republican candidate Vivek Ramaswamy. An Acton win would make her the state’s first elected woman governor.
Nearly 30 years ago, a woman served as acting governor of Ohio, but no woman has ever won election to the governorship there. That wait would end if Amy Acton wins this time.
